Saturday, May 22, 2010 – Dim Sum breakfast, as always

Jet lag is getting to me. I woke up at 3am and grabbed dim-sum breakfast at some nearby restaurant at around 6:30am. I was amazed by the silky soft texture of the wrap used for the dumplings and shumai, as opposed to the lower quality usually found in typical NYC Chinatown restaurants. Rather than a small piece of yolk or carrot, they put a Goji berry on top of their shumai, which adds to the taste. One has to go to Hong Kong for really good dim-sum.

I then bought a fresh durian at the supermarket. It smelled like rotten cat food, but tasted like buttery sweet goodness. For those who don't know what is a durian, it is a tropical fruit that has a spiky, thick external covering and smelly, yellow flesh on the inside. It is the so-called "king of fruits" in the Southeast and East Asia, and usually are quite expensive in America. I enjoy eating durian popsicles in the summer, but the smell turns many people off.

My other uncle from Tai Po invited us to eat at a restaurant this afternoon. Again, the food is great.
